Melkbosstrand Accommodation & Tourism
Melkbosstrand
Melkbosstrand is a beautiful seaside village on the north-western fringe of Cape Town, only a 10 minute drive from Alpha du Cap Guest House. It is well known for its tranquility, wide white beach, water-sports and west-coast hospitality. It is an easy getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The village, named after the milkwood trees growing to its north, is washed by the Atlantic ocean on its west side and has the Blouberg mountain on its eastern side. Its full name is Melkbosstrand, but most people refer to it as Melkbos.
Melkbos Beach
Melkbos has a wide beach, with white sand. long walks, sunbathing and safe swimming. There is a beach break, from which the waves form - this combined with the prevailing winds makes Melkbos popular amongst surfers, windsurfers, skindivers and kitesurfers. The kitesurfing and windsurfing is best when the South-East wind is blowing which it does most of the year. Although the wind isn't as consistent, there is more swell than Sunset Beach.
Melkbos Restaurants
Melkbos is home to two very unique restaurants that are definitively worth a visit.
Cafe Orca offers in-door and outdoor seating with a beautiful view of Robben Island and Table Mountain and is most enjoyable on sunny days, which Cape Town has plenty of throughout the year.
Die Melkbosskerm is an outdoor seafood restaurant with music & dancing in an relaxed athmosphere – you will make plenty of friends there and will enjoy true South African hospitality. |
