Berg River Canoe Marathon

The longest and most challenging canoe race in South Africa will take place in June on the Berg River.The main event on the Western Cape canoeing calendar has been contested since 1961 and only the extremely fit will have any chance of completing the four day, 227 kilometre challenge from Paarl in the Western Cape Winelands, all the way to Veldrif on the West Coast.Apart from the length of this world famous race, it is conducted in the middle of winter when the water is fast flowing, the channels are narrow and overhanging trees and branches are a constant threat to the competitors.
Franschhoek Bastille Festival

Each year, to celebrate France's Bastille Day, the Western Cape village of Franschhoek celebrates its century's old French Huguenot heritage with festivities, food and plenty to drink!Set in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Franschhoek is also known as the 'Gourmet Capital' of the country and for very good reason. Make for the Bastille Food and Wine Marquee and you will not be disappointed in your choice of delicacies - local and French cheeses, oysters, finely crafted sushi, hand-made chocolates and the local favourite, salmon trout from the Valley itself will all be available to taste, well complemented by superior local wines.There will also be a French Film Festival, boules, a barrel rolling contest and fly fishing competitions, not to mention the foot stomping music!
Stellenbosch Wine Festival

South Africa's premier wine festival, the Stellenbosch Wine Festival, will take place for the seventh year in a row at the Stellenbosch Town Hall.Visitors have the opportunity of not only tasting the leading wines of the area but will meet the men behind the wines, the winemakers. Leading gourmet chefs will take part in cooking competitions and visitors are encouraged to watch them create their food fantasies. Last year wine sales reached a record R400 000 with over 100 local wineries taking part.Other highlights include tours through the historic town of Stellenbosch, food, art and craft stalls. The organisers are dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of the festival and are intent in recycling all waste with the help of the local community. Funds will also be raised for community empowerment initiatives.
Red Bull Big Wave Africa
